About Our Eye Clinic in Waitsfield, VT

Dr. Shannon H. Mitchell grew up in Southern Idaho. He graduated cum laude in 2004 from Boise State University in Boise, Idaho, with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a minor in General Music. He later found his true passion in the physics of sight and completed his doctoral degree in Optometry at Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove, Oregon, in 2010. Dr. Mitchell and his wife, Molly, developed an interest in the rural forest environs of the Green Mountains in Vermont and relocated here in 2010.

Dr. Mitchell practiced in Stowe for nearly eight years before opening Mad River Eye Care PLLC in Waitsfield. He has many interests in eye care and is a great addition to the rural setting of Waitsfield with his diverse capabilities. He loves seeing people of all ages with a variety of eye care needs (see our list of services). In addition to eye care, Dr. Mitchell loves spending time with his wife and four kids biking, beachcombing, snowboarding, and loving life. He is an active member of his church’s lay clergy and enjoys participating in local theatre.

Dr. Morgan McClintic brings a thoughtful, patient-first approach to eye care, with a strong background in both general optometry and medical eye disease management. A native of Arkansas, she graduated magna cum laude from the University of Central Arkansas. She then earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee, also with high honors.

During her clinical training, Dr. McClintic completed externships in community health in California and primary eye care in Vermont. This experience left a lasting impression on both her and her husband, Matthew. After gaining valuable experience in medical optometry at a surgical ophthalmology practice in Arkansas, they returned to Vermont in 2022 and have since made their home in Barre.

Dr. McClintic offers full-scope optometric care for patients of all ages, including routine vision exams, contact lens services, and management of eye conditions such as dry eye, allergies, and ocular disease. She especially enjoys helping patients find long-term relief from chronic eye discomfort and supporting their overall visual wellness.

Ashley has worked in the optometry field for over a decade and has been part of Mad River Eye Care since before the practice first opened. Over the years, she has gained experience in many areas of the practice-from welcoming patients at the front desk to supporting clinical care, billing, and operations – giving her a well-rounded perspective on the patient experience.

As Office Manager, Ashley plays an important role in supporting the team, strengthening practice systems, and helping guide the continued growth of Mad River Eye Care. She is passionate about building a positive team culture and ensuring every patient has a welcoming, seamless experience from the moment they walk through the door. Ashley holds a certificate in Optometric Management.

Outside the office, Ashley enjoys spending time with friends and family, road tripping around New England, seeing live music, watching sports, and camping.

We are thrilled to welcome Hannah Cannon as Optical Manager at Mad River Eye Care. A cornerstone of the Vermont optical community, Hannah brings over 25 years of healthcare experience and a strong passion for patient-centered vision care.

A Licensed Optician in Vermont since 2016, Hannah is known for her commitment to excellence and ongoing education. Her background includes six years as an Office Manager and leadership within the Vision Source network as a former Vermont Facilitator.

Hannah is an active leader in the field, currently serving as President of the Opticians Association of Vermont and a Board member since 2018. She is certified by the American Board of Opticianry, an Academy Fellow of the National Academy of Opticianry, and has contributed as Fundraising Chairperson for the Vision of Hope Foundation.

At Mad River Eye Care, Hannah combines her expertise in optical technology with a personalized approach, ensuring each patient receives solutions tailored to their lifestyle. She is dedicated to patient education and supporting her team in delivering exceptional care. Outside the office, Hannah enjoys gardening, fishing, cooking, and spending time with her family and dog, Dusty.

Born and raised in the charming town of Northfield, VT, Judy brings small-town warmth and a welcoming smile to our front desk. Though new to the world of optometry, she’s eager to learn the ins and outs of eye care and is passionate about making every patient feel comfortable and cared for from the moment they walk through our doors.

When she’s not helping patients or learning something new in the office, you’ll likely find Judy cheering on her favorite team at a Norwich University hockey game (Go Cadets!), spending quality time with friends and family, or hanging out at home in Northfield with her boyfriend and their three quirky reptilian “kids.”

Originally from southern Vermont, Jessica has explored many corners of the country—but no matter where she goes, the Green Mountain State will always feel like home. She joined the world of optometry at the beginning of 2025 and has been diving in headfirst ever since, bringing her curiosity, energy, and passion for patient care to everything she does.

Jessica earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychological Science from Castleton University in 2023, and her love for learning has only grown since. Now, she’s channeling that same drive into mastering the clinical side of eye care and supporting patients with knowledge, kindness, and compassion.

Whether she’s pre-testing, assisting with procedures, or chatting with patients, Jessica is always eager to make a difference.

From my roots in Ireland to growing up in Central Vermont, community has always been my focus. I have spent the last 10 years as a Medical Assistant, fueled by a passion for patient advocacy and a lifelong curiosity for science. Outside of the clinic, I am proud to be an active foster parent, a role that drives my dedication to helping others thrive.

Meet our CFO. Molly came on as the practice closed due to COVID. She works alongside Dr. Mitchell and our office manager, Ashley, to keep the practice in the black. Molly loves all things theatre, skiing, and mountain biking. Most days, you’ll find Molly negotiating with her four delightful, albeit challenging, children.

Glenda serves as the Healthcare Virtual Assistant, ensuring both patients and providers have a smooth, stress-free experience. She plays a key role in insurance verification, appointment coordination, and patient communication, making sure care is timely, accurate, and seamless.

Outside of work, Glenda enjoys spending time with friends and family, spoiling her three furbabies—two cats and one dog—and escaping into a good book or binge-watching her favorite shows. Her friendly, detail-oriented approach helps make every interaction welcoming and reassuring.
